Society and individuals can definitely be dangerous when given information. It is what we choose to do with that knowledge that can make it dangerous. We have the potential to make great things in our discoveries, but we usually don't always do the right thing with that knowledge. In medical sciences, we have found possible advantages in cloning, and instead we cloned secret lambs. We tried to make nuclear energy, eternal energy for everyone, split the atom and what happens?
