Independance Day
Independence Day (1996) Synopsis:It is an ordinary summer day. But then, without warning, something very extraordinary happens. Enormous shadows fall across the land. Strange atmospheric phenomena, ominous and mesmerizing, surface around the globe. All eyes turn upward. The question of whether we're alone in the universe has finally been answered. And, in a matter of minutes, the lives of every person across the globe are forever changed. With the fate of our planet at stake, the Fourth of July is about to take on an entirely new meaning. No longer will it be an American holiday. It will be known as the day the entire world fought back. The day we did not go gentle into the good night... The day all of us on planet Earth celebrated our independence day. What if visitors from another world suddenly appeared? What if tomorrow morning, you walked out of your door and saw an enormous spaceship hovering over your entire city? And what if you learned that the same thing was happening across our planet? These kinds of questions have sparked innumerable discussions, theories and debates across the planet. Now, we're about to get the answers. It is an ordinary summer day -- But then, without warning, something very
The acting is pretty decent. Will Smith is his same old charming yet cocky self. Jeff Goldblum continues to portray the off-beat genius-type who saves the day. Brent Spiner appears in an amazing cameo as an eccentric scientist who is in charge of the Area 51 base that houses the aliens (in formaldehde?) and their ship. Bill Pullman plays a refreshing kind of President not typically seen in movies (or real life for that matter), who actually joins in the fight against the invaders. ID4 is about what happens when "they" get here. It's well thought out and extremely well done. This is a movie that, to me, defines and classifies a genre of film through the end of the second millennium. The science fiction film has reached a climax it will not soon top. I rate ID4 as the #1 film of all time. In the epic adventure film INDEPENDENCE DAY, strange phenomena surface around the globe. The skies ignite. Terror races through the world's major cities. As these extraordinary events unfold, it becomes increasingly clear that a force of incredible magnitude has arrived; its mission: total annihilation over the Fourth of July weekend. The last hope to stop the destruction is an unlikely group of people united by fate and unimaginable circumstances. There are two kinds of people in the world: those who believe in aliens and those who don't. I don't. I think it's possible that there is life out there somewhere, I just think it's extremely unlikely. But if in fact there is life, I think it's incredibly less likely still that it will have evolved into intelligent lifeforms (after all, look at the competition!) And if it does evolve into intelligent and mobile life, it would then still be extremely unlikely that it would travel 60 billion light years and end up here. Not when Dominos Delivers, like their ad's say! With the fate of our planet at stake, the Fourth of July is about to take on an entirely new meaning. No longer will it be an American holiday. it will be known as the day the entire world fought back. The day we did not go gentle into the good night ... The special effects in ID4 are suitably impressive, however not consistently spectacular. The destruction sequences will have you strapped to your seat. If there is one thing that director Roland Emmerich does truly well, it's the set-up. Everything is kept in motion, ensuring rising suspense as we await the inevitable. Emmerich uses an effective technique as the visitor's arrive, in which the ship's towering shadows overtake the Lincoln Memorial, White House and other various landmarks. In this first half-hour, we are too caught up in anticipation to worry about the numerous technical flaws that surface. And then, sure enough, Emmerich gives in to spectacular explosions and air-borne attacks that will have most audience members gaping in awe. The basic plot leaves much to be desired, however. While Independence Day is filled with special effects that make the a
