Imagine waking up one day and finding yourself on a filthy floor full of rags or maybe a street corner. You look at yourself to find you are wearing the same clothes you wore yesterday and the day before. However, they are filthy with lots of holes in the knees and elbows. You touch your hair only to find a pile of grease and dirt that obvious it has not been washes in days, or maybe even weeks. You have no place to do ever since you lost your job. Some people found the movie depressing and pretentious. Critics asked if people who struggled during the depression would want to go and watch a movie about people like them. Well, people did watch it, and it became a popular movie. Ford won the Oscar for Best Director and had many nominations in the Academy Awards. The people found the movie inspiring especially the speeches by Tom and Fonda Joad at the end of the movie. A year later, another movie released that parodied The Grapes of Wrath, called Sullivan's Travels.

While the American was struggling to live through the Depression, President Herbert Hoover was creating programs to help farmers. In May 1933, the government passed the Agriculture Adjustment.
