Macbeth essay comparison
Lawrence Lowe and Lance Neil both wrote an essay that describes Macbeth's characteristics. Lowe explains how Macbeth is a difficult character to decide whether he is good or bad, while Neil mostly writes about how Macbeth is a good person with weak qualities which in the end make him turn evil. Although the authors have different objectives in their essays, they bring up many similar points. Some of these points include how Macbeth is a great warrior, a brave man, and how ambition controls much of his decision making. Lowe goes into detail on how Macbeth is a brave person through his actions within his fighting skills, and because of this he has a higher title and instead of being Thane of Glamis he becomes thane of Cawdor. This heroic trait within Macbeth is one of his good qualities which are also explained by Lance Neil. Neil has the same basic idea and gives detail about his bravery through his efforts and victories
Macbeth has good intentions but sometimes his weak mind ignores and disobeys his good heart. Neil clarifies this when Lady Macbeth tries convincing Macbeth to kill Duncan. Macbeth at first had mixed feelings about this and knew that it would be wrong and deceitful, but later on his ultimate decision lead to the demise of Duncan. This final decision was mostly brought on because of Lady Macbeth's persuasive ideas which overpowered Macbeth's decision making. Lowe has similar ideas to Neil about how he has good intentions but is easily over powered. He says, "Macbeth is easily won over to evil," and this is mostly referred to how Macbeth is persuaded by his wife to kill Duncan. He is also persuaded by the witches to kill Duncan, and this shows how he has too much trust within them.
