Event Horizon guts out the bir
The Birds, and Event Horizon: Two movies of the same "horror" genre, but they both scare you in completely different ways. The Birds is a thriller released in 1963, which uses little or no special effects to horr you to a sinister stupor. Event Horizon is a film made in the Twentieth century that uses all of the computers and technology to depict the outer reaches of space to frighten you to a withered, shacking pulp. With time the horror genre of movies evolved with the help of technology and society's morals fading in the sunset of life. If I am going to start off with The Birds, lets just get a few things straight. Take into consideration that it was made in 1963 and the film industry standards where different than now. They used different and unique camera angles to get their point across. In the futuristic time of the present they use special effects more than just plain camera angles to manipulate the movie scenes. Some of the special effects used in The Birds are more silly than scary. The effects are so silly probably because the movie was made so long ago. That is just my opinion, and it is just an opinion because I was not alive to see the effects of the movie when it was originally released.
sed in Event Horizon are so awesome that the artist's who did them made it seem like you were really in space, floating in front of the big bluish-green planet of Neptune. That's not even the start of the overwhelming gore filled scenes in the movie. The movie reflects hints of other movies such as Aliens, Hellraiser, and The Shining. The reason I picked Aliens is because the whole movie is set in space and the cast and crew are stuck on the ship with no way off. As in Hellraiser there are some grotesque scenes of hellish type murder and torture to make you cringe with fear. The whole movie was kind of like the Shining. One "thing" chasing somebody throughout the whole movie I could not really pick out the evildoer in The Birds, unless you want to be really obvious...the birds. I think the story line of the movie was kind of bad. Melanie Daniels drives far away to give some birds to Mitch Brenner, a guy she had just met. When she gets there she encounters a few little mishaps and there is some tension between her and the man's mother. Then all of a sudden these birds start attacking and there goes the neighborhood. If there was some inside meaning to the movie is was so hidden that I could not see it, but what do I know I like movies that spell out the plot in all capitol letters served on a silver platter. The only part of this movie that kept my "gator's fed" was the end of it where Melanie Daniels almost gets pecked to death by birds that have quietly pecked their way through the roof. The Birds was a great horror movie...in the 60's when it was made but over time it has been preceded by new and better movies that use technology to frighten and gross people out, instead of well thought out camera angles and suspense. Suspense is still in movies now but the people have shorter attention spans, and want the "terror" to happen quicker and more frequently. Event Horizon does a great job of scaring you with guts and blood, bu
