Physical Fitness

In this paper, I plan on discussing physical fitness and its five components. I will also discuss the importance of being physically fit. The five components can almost be considered as one, because if you have one you will probably have them all. Being physically fit and the five components can be achieved by one thing and that is exercise.

What is physical fitness? Dictionary.com says that physical fitness is a noun that means good physical condition; being in shape or in condition. What does being in good physical condition mean to the average person? It could mean that they have to run two or more miles, or go to the gym for three hours and working out and eating three well balanced meals everyday. Others might just consider themselves as being physically fit just the way they are now, even if they are a little overweight. It just depends on the person, because there is no such thing as the average person. Not all people are alike in the way of their thinking. Some people are happy the way they are and other people are very open to new physical changes no matter what work they will have to put into it.

As with everything else, the ability to be flexible depends of key issues. Women usually have a higher flexibility than a man would. Also, just growing older can help in the loss of flexibility. The ageing decreases the extensibility of soft tissue but this is a natural process.

Is it possible to get fit and have fun? Of course you can get fit and have fun at the same time. The easiest way is to pick exercises that you enjoy doing like walking, running, or maybe even swimming. Another easy way to have fun is find a ?get fit friend?. Do not do it alone. Have a friend work out with you. Who knows all the good memories you could make while getting fit. Also, get a stereo, tape, or compact disk to help you in your motivation part. It would be a smart idea to pick music with a faster tempo so that you don?t slow down while you are exercising. Dancing is a very good way to get fit, it uses more muscles than you think.

What is muscular endurance? Muscular endurance is the ability of a muscle or a group of muscles to sustain repeated contraction or to continue applying force against a fixed object. Muscular endurance in the arm and shoulder can be measured by how many push-ups could be done in a timed period. The importance of muscular endurance is to make sure you go about your daily routine of repeating a certain task without straining any muscles.

A good and healthy diet is also a big part of being physically fit. If you don?t eat well the exercise you have just done is mostly worthless. What exactly is considered a good diet? A good, well balanced diet consist of eating the suggested proportions for each section of the food pyramid. It is also a good idea to stay away from really fatty foods.
