Affects of 3rd Party Systems
Before going into the research paper to explain the affects that the creation of the 2 party systems had on 3rd party politics we need to have concise and in-depth comprehension knowledge on the two party systems in America. In the past, American political parties were customarily looked to for jobs and favors by the party followers and contributors. The American political system has been primarily a two party system ever since the Whig party left office in 1852. The Democrats and the Republicans have been the two parties fighting for the Presidency since that time. There have always been many other parties since that time, called, 3rd political parties the introduction to American politics that voices the opinions of others not in favor of the 2 party systems. "Third parties have contributed huge ideas to American politics, from the abolition of slavery, to a woman's right to vote, to child labor laws. Their relatively recent exile to the margins of American political life is highly unfortunate. The Natural Law Party: A Reason to Vote gives us the information we need to bring third parties back to center stage." (Marianne Williamson) Since the mid 1850's, the Democrats and Republicans have had control of the nation government. T
The action-oriented parties have decided to do something about the 2 party system in a way that will have a positive effect on the future, the environment, social justice, democracy, and peace and non-violence in society. The positive messages sent gradually across to the people in society are greatly challenging the beliefs in democratic and republican policies. The growing number of interesting people will encourage the sprouting of newer and better improving 3rd parties. A real opportunity can be grasped by sending a clear message to all politicians that people of conscience will reject candidates who don't reflect the values of the people. Elect to office a public servant from every main voting district who will pull debates toward the national level, the best conclusion is that 3rd party politics may someday take over for the interests of the long term survival of the United States. 3rd party systems will benefit both this generation and the generations yet to come. Yet the government still restricts the incoming new parties, the Republicans and Democrats have the authority to change the laws and basically relegate all third parties so they never reach the political arena. You won't find it in the U.S. Constitution because it's not there. The answer is not a mystery. No one gave them the authority. The Republicans and Democrats just took it. The problem now in America is not the threat of third parties. The problem is that no new ideas can find their way into the national debate; no new party can make a dent in the political process. Traditionally, the role of third parties has been to inject new ideas into the political debate. Abolition of slavery, a woman's right to vote, and crucial child labor law reforms have all come not from the two parties in power, but from outside the mainstream, from strong third-party movements. Our democracy was most vital and attracted the largest voter turnout over 100 years ago when there were no laws restricting third party participation in the political process and, as a result, there were several vibrant smaller parties. Voter turnout was 80%. Since then, as new ideas and third parties have increasingly been squeezed out of the fold, voter participation has steadily declined until now less than 50% of eligible voters cast a ballot in the presidential elections and less than 40% vote in off-year elections. The American 2 party political system cannot meet the needs of the American people because many people who voice different ideas and opinions are not elec
