Throughout the whole book Harper Lee demonstrates the importance of walking in ones skin or shoes to see things from a different perspective. There were so many characters throughout the book that were put in this situation. Three examples were, Atticus putting the towns' people in Tom Robinson's shoes, Jem eventually seeing Mrs Dubose in a completely different way and Scout finally discovering the truth about Boo Radley.
With all the prejudice, stereotypical and moral views of Maycomb, Atticus made his closing statement in the courtroom to try to persuade the towns' people to Tom's side, he was unsuccessful in doing so, but he did open a small window into the understanding of others. In conclusion Harper Lee has demonstrated throughout the whole book that you should not pass judgement too quickly instead you should take the time too look beyond the persons past, looks and reputation and see the true person underneath. Atticus may have not won Tom's case and Jem did not keep Mrs. Dubose alive but Scout made a monster in her mind turn into a friend for life.
