Tartuffe Essay

In Tartuffe, throughout the play Orgon is in state of complete confusion and very lost of where he stands. He sees Tartuffe as a higher figure and listens to him as a master. Orgon makes many actions throughout the play emotionally that not only affect him but, his family as well. Orgon sees Tartuffe as his leader and gives him tremendous amount of respect even tough he does not know him well. The characters in Moliere's, Tartuffe make decisions based on their emotions, not reason.

Orgon view Tartuffe as a man with respect but also feels bad for him. He sees Tartuffe as having a horrible life and that nothing has ever gone good for him. He has a relationship where he only concerned of Tartuffe, "Madame has a bad fever, two days ago, And a headache that really brought her low. Yes and Tartuffe?"(Act 1, Scene 3). Orgon hears news of his ill wife but can only care to wonder how Tartuffe is doing. Orgon wants to follow


In Moliere's, Tartuffe, Orgon's decision making based on emotion rather than reason really hurt him. It tore his life up and his families up. He showed his family betrayal and gave a man whom he knew little of more trust and gratitude to than his whole family. The emotions Orgon believed led him to collapse and to believe a crooked Tartuffe.

Tartuffe and this is why he bases his decisions based on his emotions and not reason. Later Orgon refers to Tartuffe as, "Poor fellow!"(236). In Orgon's mind he is feeling very bad for Tartuffe imagining that he had lived a horrid life with pain. In Orgon's mind he sees Tartuffe as a religious leader and feels he is doing a great deed by helping a religious leader. It seems that whatever is on Orgon's mind he thinks of what would be in the best interest of Tartuffe before himself or his family which will only hurt.
