Leonardo Da Vinci's family was never supportive of him until he became an artist. His father was a wealthy Florentine notary named Ser Piero da Vinci. His mother, Catherina was a poor, peasant girl with artistic talent, which became the basis of Leonardo's talent. Before living with his father and his wife, Leonardo spent the first 4 years of his life living with his Mother in a small village outside of Florence. Other than the well-known artists Michelangelo, Raphael, and Titan, Leonardo Da Vinci was the most famous artist of the Renaissance period. When his father realized Leonardo's talent, he took him to live with him and his wife in Florence. In 1472 he was accepted in the painter's guild of Florence, and worked there for about six years. During the period of time that Leonardo spent painting the Palazzo Vecchio, he also painted several other works, including the most famous portrait ever, the Mona Lisa. In 1495 she married the Florentine merchant Francesco del Giocondo. On August 21, 1911, the Mona Lisa painting was stolen right off the wall of the Louvre (famous museum in Paris, France). It was such an incredible crime, that the Mona Lisa wasn't even noticed missing until the following day. Two years went by with no word about the real Mona Lisa. Finally, Leonardo Vincenzo, whose real name was Vincenzo Peruggia, was arrested. Vincenzo Peruggia, born in Italy, had worked in Paris at the Louvre in 1908. Still known by many of the guards, Peruggia had walked into the museum, noticed the Salon Carre empty, grabbed the Mona Lisa, went to the staircase, removed the painting from its frame, and walked out of the museum with the Mona Lisa under his painting smock. The Mona Lisa is still located in Paris, France in a display for the public to view. Leonardo died at age 67. He never got married or had any children.
