Totalitarianism relates to our society in many ways. Our government controls what we know and only tells us what we need to know in order to maintain an ongoing society. In 1984 written by George Orwell the government is ran similar to the way is run today.

Throughout the book of 1984, there are several examples of when proles experience injustice. It's not always blatant but it's still unjust and unnecessary. An example of this is the slogans that the totalitarian government made up. "Two + 2 is 5", "freedom is slavery" and "God is Power" are all slogans that make no sense. These are pretty much the opposite of what we believe in currently with the exception of "god is power".

In 1984, the society is run by a party that is completely corrupt. Much like our government, citizens have no real understanding of what goes on behind the commercialized walls. Proles have no memory of the past, and we currently never know what really goes on. That's the basic connection between the two governments. Also the way the government now can get access to any individuals personal information, relates to how totalitarian government has everybody controlled. Which government would you choose to live by?

This moral justification states that all people who make up the population must abide by these slogans. The reason all the proles believe these slogans is because they don't know any better. They are simply forced to believe since they have no knowledge to believe otherwise. This is common to the Thanksgiving Holiday that we celebrate every year. When I was in elementary school and up until high school, I thought that thanksgiving was a time of happiness where Native Americans gathered there blessings and were thankful for what they had. That was what I was told when I was young by teachers and people around me. Eventually after learning differently I realized that I was told a lie when I was younger and I believed it 100 percent at the time because I didn't know any better. I learned that European settlers came to America and killed Native Americans, on that day but I never would have known if I didn't have the ability to study the past. The totalitarian government prohibits any memory, therefore it is impossible for someone to learn in that society. Therefore the same way I was forced in believing Thanksgiving was a time of peace, proles were forced to believe the 3 slogans.
