Coming into this project, trying to find a successful company that would be easy to talk about was like trying to find a needle in a haystack. The only thing I knew about business was from my dad who is in the fashion industry, a different type of industry that I am about to bring up. Now that I have a better understanding of what a business truly is involved in an economic standpoint, I can differentiate between other corporations and successfully compare their strengths and weaknesses.
I chose the AMR Corporation, which provides scheduled jet service to destinations throughout North America, the Caribbean, Latin America, Europe and the Pacific through its principal subsidiary, American Airlines, Inc., and is also, a major scheduled airfreight carrier. I saw on the news that AMR acquired TWA due to their bankruptcy. This would be called a buy out; in this case the government has to rule if the transaction would make them more monopolistic. his interesting and very highly potential to research. After reading AMR?s financial standings, this would be the perfect business to talk about. AMR?s ?mission statement? (I put this in quotation marks because this is the closest I could find to a mission statement) is in the business to provide safe, dependable, and friendly air transportation to our customers, along with numerous related services, in the hopes that you will fly with them again and again. They work very hard to make your entire experience with them, from making a reservation to deplaning at your final destination, a positive one.
Globally AMR can be highly effected or highly effect other industries. Oil is the most important resource to AMR because it measures the cost of fuel to put into a plane. The gas hike in the past few years has had a dramatic affect on net income. Raising prices to cover the gas hike causes a decrease the amount of people who fly. This decrease leads to
