A Day in the Life of Noble

Describe a day in the life of noble and his family.

A noble was a person of the official or "upper" class. They were men of great wealth. Their wealth came mainly from real estate appointed to them by the king. They were highly respected and were expected to live up to certain roles. A noble's household was a hive of activity. A noble would have many servants to attend his every need. This was achieved by the men removing body and facial hair with bronze razors, tweezers and scrapers, they also anointed their bodies with perfumed oils.

In a day in the life of a noble, he would be carried from place to place in a carrying chair. He would most likely make inspections on his estate, which were made on irregular intervals. As well as inspecting fields, the noble man would also visit the granaries, shipyard and craftsmen workshops. On his daily trip through his estates he would see fisherman, peasants, herdsman and other workers, working tirelessly all day.

After many hours supervising the activities on his estate, the noble would return to his comfortable home to relax with his family. After completing his evening and final meal, the noble might play a quiet game of sennet with his beloved wife or retire and enjoy the high kicks and aerobatic feats of female dancers as they move endlessly and pleasantly.
