Plastic Surgery
Plastic surgery has become more and more popular every year. Reconstructive surgery has increase 9% from 2000 to 2001(Gaynor 2). There are so many different kinds of procedures that could make the body the way the person wants. The most popular surgeries that are performed include breast, liposuction, face, neck, arm, thigh, buttock, and many more. Whatever the customer wants to fix on their body can be done. The more surgeons find how to make the body closer to perfection the more people consider having the surgery. In today's beauty culture plastic surgery is the most common surgery done, for the pressure that society brings to all ages to become "ideal" person. The problem that is growing more and more is that many young ladies are getting their body constructed when their body is not don't growing yet. This could cause many problems and complications. Another problem is that many people get it done because society pushes thoughts in their heads that to be recognized they have to be good looking. These issues could cause psychological problems as well. In the 1980's plastic surgery was very uncommon. When someone did have the surgery it made the person look like they were wealthy. During
As a teenager everyone wants to fit in, and be popular for his or her looks. Teenagers feel the pressure of having the nicest body by other teenagers too. They see fellow classmates having some sort of surgery done, and see the results. They see attention people get, and think it is positive recognition. They forget about the health issues that are involved. They mostly do it for the attention. Some celebrities are not happy with their body either. God gave everyone a certain look to live by, but some change what he gave out. When they do get plastic surgery done it is a not spoken subject. They just know who got it, and never ask them about it (Wilson 3). This is a sign that it is not the right way to go. If they receive that operation, then they should be proud of it. If they do not want to share their experience then other women and men should see that as a sign of shame. Celebrities are another group of people that are look upon differently. They are famous for whatever their job is, but the public makes them "role models". The public picks out certain qualities that actors or actress have that are the "in" style. Everyone has a certain body part that everyone wants. A lot of the public put the celebrities on pedestals. They make them look like that is the way everyone should look. Another source that makes plastic surgery an option in a teenager's life would be their parents. Many parents are very hurtful when it comes to looks. Some show emotions that are unacceptable. They bring their child's self esteem down to a level that plastic surgery is the way to be acceptable. They can be as cruel as children could be. In this culture celebrities are the ones that young people look up to. Even some males want to look good for the ladies. Hair implants are popular with the guys. Most celebrities, especially young ones, are not bald. So guys that are losing their hair at a young age feel unattractive too. This society would not look at a young bald male to be accepted as a popular good-looking guy.
