"The Love in Homer and Sandra Heart"

It's not strange that everybody has some shape of heart about love. Since we are human beings, we have to feel various feelings. Whether it's serious or not, everyone has room for love in their heart. David Updike's short story "Summer" is a love story with little drama or complication.

At the beginning of the story, David Updike described the setting and general atmosphere of a summer morning. Homer visited his friend's town at that summer and met Sandra who is his friend's sister. Once he saw Sandra, he was attracted by her beauty and loved her at first sight. While he was there, they visited some places and became friendlier with each other. According to the story, Sandra fells in love with Homer as well.

I feel sorry for them when I read the paragraph "Homer saw in its sullen shadows

a girl sitting alone in a canoe, and in an eternal, melancholy signal of parting, she waved to them as they passed." Even though they knew they love each other, they stored their love inside of their hearts without saying a word. Both of them know that they would be parted when the time comes. It's sure that Homer would have to go back one day and if they love each other openly, it'll be very difficult to part. That's why Homer didn't tell Sandra how much he loves her even if he could get a chance to tell Sandra.

Eventually, after reading the story of "Summer", I feel that Homer and Sandra extremely love each other and, they feel the true love even they didn't kiss and say a word 'I love you' till the end of the story. I hope that they two will love openly each other if Homer comes next summer
