Conflict is sometime viewed as something for teams to avoid. When we think about conflict we often think about the negative side of conflict. Team members arguing; temper flaring, name-calling and tension. Conflict can also be produce in a positive way. A team must be willing to face conflict. Identify the type of conflict and avoid the common pitfalls in the meeting. Being open with team conflict can benefit the whole team. Conflict should be encouraged rather than stamped out in organizations because it is natural part of the human experience and a healthy ingredient of the collaborative process. There are two basic types of conflict. "Emotional conflict is personal, defensive, and resentful. Also known as A-type conflict or affective, it is rooted in anger, personal friction, personality clashes, ego and tension." (Guetzkow & Gyr, 1954) The other type is Cognitive conflict is largely depersonalized; also known as C-type conflict, it consists of argumentation about the merits of ideas, plans, and projects. Cognitive conflict is often effective in stimulating creativity because it forces people to rethink problems and arrive at outcomes that everyone can live with."
