Conclusion: "Clearly, all Americans need to recognize and protect themselves and their children from the harmful effects of secondhand smoke...they should encourage their legislators to maintain or strengthen bans on smoking in public places. Only then can we breathe easy, knowing that our lungs and our lives aren't at risk form someone else's smoke" (Garrison 48).

Cigarette smoking in public places has been an issue in our society for a long time now. As early as in 1972, the scientific community has begun gathering evidence about the adverse health effects of secondhand smoke. The report of surgeon general concluded that
