Comparison of the French and Russian Revoloutions.

A detailed Summary of Comparison of the French and Russian Revoloutions.

The use of either physical (such as the aggressiveness shown by the Cheka, the Russian secret police) or political force (such as War Communism) was prevalent in both the French (Between May 1789 - 1795) and Russian (Between February 1917 - 1924) revolutions. To protect and reinforce the revolutions (which were violent overthrows of the government) leaders of the time believed that force (which is defined as the use of power) was the an option available to secure the revolution. The force used came in different forms such as the Reign of Terror in France, to the Red Terror experienced in the Russian Civil War. Force was seen in many eyes to be the solution to securing the revolution and preventing any counter-revolutions, however it was not the only factor that secured the consolidation of the revolutions. Factors such as the N.E.P (New Economic Policy) implemented by Lenin, contributed to the stability of the revolution, as it was a reform that needed to implemented for the revolution to be a success.

During the course of the French and Russian Revolutions the threat of counter-revolutions always loomed. One of the threats of counter-revolutions came from the previous leaders (King Louis XVI and Tsar Nicholas II) creating an

Although force has been a major factors in ensuring the consolidation of the Russian and French revolutions, it was not the only one. In the Russian Revolution, the N.E.P (New Economic Policy) was also a factor that ensured that the consolidation of the revolution would succeed. The N.E.P was seen as a step backwards in the revolution as it took a flavour of capitalism, however Lenin insisted that it was a step backward, to take two steps forward, which ended up to being a true statement. The N.E.P introduced economic reforms, which in order increased production, and prosperity to the people of Russia, and calmed down the counter-revolutionary feelings. Force wasn't the only factor that contributed to the success of the French Revolution either. Although a lot of the new policies introduced were in the best interest of the Bourgeoisie, they also helped in the consolidation of power. Reforms such as the Self-Denying ordinance, which was brought in to disallow ministers for running for office for a second term, along with aspects of the Declaration of the Rights of Man, and the new justice system which was independent of the King's choice of ministers and judges. These reforms in both the French and Russian Revolutions helped calm the anti-revolutionary thoughts, and allow the revolution to be strengthened.

Force was proven to be major factor in the consolidation of both the French and Russian Revolutions. Force such as the Great Fear, and the Red Terror ensured that the citizens of the country did not get persuaded into counter-revolutionary thoughts. The enforcement of conscription in both revolutions also ensured that foreign and internal threats would be crushed immediately, and thus crushing any chance of a counter-revolution. However force wasn't the only factor that guaranteed the success of the revolution, as was seen by the reaction of the citizens of France and Russia to reforms such as the N.E.P and the amendment of the Declaration of Human Rights.

A use of force in the Russian Revolution was the initiation of "Red Terror", where they would crush the enemies of commu
