Animal testing is necessary for human survival and medical research. I will give a brief background and description of animal testing, explain some of the medical advancements achieved from animal testing, and give my own opinion as to why animal testing is beneficial to humans. I will weigh both sides of animal testing and will prove that animal testing is a necessity for human existence and medical breakthroughs.

Eight-five percent of the animals tested are rats and mice. When testing these animals scientists try to ensure that the use of animals contributes to the advancement of knowledge and minimizes any possible pain the animals may experience.

Animals are biologically similar to humans and are susceptible to many of the same health problems. Medical studies are needed to find certain drugs that will work to cure diseases and animals are the closest things to humans so we need to use them. If drugs were marketed with out proper testing we would not know if they were safe to use.
In conclusion, I have shown many reasons why animal testing is necessary for human survival and medical research. The medical benefits provided by animal testing give humans and animals longer and healthier lives, which they may not have had with out animal testing. People will do whatever it takes to save the people they love. So next time a loved one is sick and needs medication or an operation, remember animal testing may just save a loved one's life someday.
