Schindler
A detailed Summary of Schindler
Schindler's List, produced by Steven Spielberg, is one of the greatest movies of its time and will be remembered for many years to come. It is a story of a German Nazi, Oscar Schindler, who saves many Jews by many selfless acts. With the help of a very skilled accountant, Itzhak Stern, Schindler starts a metal factory which made pots and later ammunition. By giving Jews a job at his metal factory during Holocaust, they were essential workers and were kept alive. I have never studied the Holocaust in detail, but I learned very much from this movie because I felt like I was there. Spielberg was able to portray the reality of the Holocaust through showing the unrestrained truth. Some may think that it is too violent and offensive, but it was necessary to portray what the Jews had to go through. There are parts in the movie where we also see the good in humankind. While the violence and cruelty in ?Schindler?s List? shows the reality of the Holocaust, a humanness of mankind can be seen through Amon Goeth, a German officer, and Oscar Schindler.
The violence in ?Schindler?s List? is overwhelming at times, but for the audience to catch the truth of the treatment of the Jews, it was necessary for Steven Spielberg to include it. He lets

cheaply. He was a greedy businessman trying to make money off of the war, but Schindler?s heart was not as hard as most Nazis. He understood that Jews were human like him. He believed that mercy was power. This is demonstrated when he says, ?Power is when we have every justification to kill and we don?t.? The first time we see Schindler?s heart go out to a Jew is when he kisses a Jewish girl who gives him a cake at his birthday party full of Germans. For the simple act of gratitude, he was put in jail. Another turning point for Schindler is when a woman comes to him and asks if her parents could come work for him because ?...nobody dies in [his] company, it?s a haven.? For his gold watch Geoth lets the couple work at Schindler?s factory.
?Schindler?s List? evokes many feelings: fear, sadness, hate, hope, despair and triumph. Through its graphic details, Spielberg was able to portray not only what truly happened, but also the feelings of what truly happened during the Holocaust. This movie would not have been as powerful without showing the shedding of innocent blood. The gruesome details catch the reality. Not every German of the Nazi party was a murderer.
The stark coldness of the Nazi soldiers is often seen in ?Schindler?s list?. Another example is when one day on the way to work Schindler?s workers are asked to shovel snow from the streets so that the soldiers? cars could get by. An old man with one arm having difficulties with this task gets shot in the head. The innocent blood of the old man is next seen streaming through the pure white snow. Through this violent act, Spielberg metaphorically portrays the innocence of the many people who died in the Holocaust.
unfeelingly pulls out his gun and shoots her. Next, he sees a woman resting from her hard work, sitting on a wooden box and, with no emotion, shoots her too. Suddenly, I could feel the horror and fear of the other workers and the sadness of the loved
