Many contributing factors led the success of the Soviet Union in the Great Patriotic War between 1941 to 1945. A primary reason for this triumph was the nationalistic determination of the people under Stalin's leadership. The USSR's centralized industrialization and rapid mobilization held a key role in Soviet victory and was a secondary factor to Soviet success. It was the battle of Stalingrad that demonstrated the strength of the Soviet Union as it was to signal the turning point of the war for Russia.

The battle of Stalingrad was an example of the combination of these factors; industrialization, modernization and nationalism; the Soviet was able to attain a triumphant victory.
