What females where to social events at Plattsburgh State University

Since the beginning of time due to social norms, culture and religion most women were expected to wear traditional clothing that usually consisted of a dress or a skirt. And times have changed dramatically now that women are more liberated and we no longer care what society expects of us we wear what we want. The drastic change of women expressing them was first acknowledged in America began during the first wave of feminism.

This time period was the roaring twenties. During the roaring twenties women started lifting their skirts a bit higher and creating their own style to their clothing. As time progressed there were extreme changes in the clothing trend that took place every 20-30 years. For example a line skirts were popular in the 50's and females were still expected to wear skirts and dresses in school and the workplace.

In the 70's things changed a lot, denim became very popular and more women and young girls began to wear denim pants as an expression of freedom and change.


People who are from the North Country seem to dress more comfortable regardless of the weather. I have met and seen many students who are from North NY wear clothing from Aeropostale, Gap Abercrombie and Fitch and also American eagle. Most of the designers that I mentioned above have comfortable clothing at reasonable prices. Representation -> when I asked a group of people why do they choose these brands of clothing some replied that the price, style and popularity of these clothing designers are quality and it is comfortable.

I noticed that most people from urban areas like NYC tend to wear urban clothing (like I do) its comfortable and it can consist of loose fitted to tight jeans and a hooded sweater, a t-shirt and boots some prefer expensive name brands of urban clothing that cant be found in Plattsburgh. That is how I was able to distinguish the different group. Most urban clothing designers that I have seen most students from NYC wear are: Ralph Lauren (polo sport) Guess, Gap, Old navy, Nike and timberland.
