Music was important in the Medieval time period because it was a major source of entertainment. There were no televisions or radios so people made up fairy tales and made music. Many instruments were created and used in making music, some of which were very bizarre. Classical music that was woodwindy and high-pitched was the music of choice in the Middle Ages. Music expanded from there branching off into many mixtures of music. The music could not have been played unless there was an instrument to play it on.
Besides percussion, the medieval period can be credited with perhaps creating and using a wide variety of other types of instruments. String instruments such as the lute and viol were used. Other string instruments include the harp, harpsichord, dulcim
The medieval influence on music has greatly influenced music as it is today. Every form of music has ,in some way, branched off of classical music in the Middle Ages. Rock, rap, country, funk, all of it. All comes from classical music mixed with some African here, Asian there, everything a little bit of everywhere. If a pole was taken among all U.S. 10th graders on what was better: the television or radio preference, I'm saying more than half of the students would choose radio over TV. Music is much more fun to listen to and interpret in your own way. Thanks to Medieval music, we still can.
Most of the music played in the Middle ages was classical music and very woodwindy with simple percussion slots. Most of the music was easy going and smooth to listen
