Full Fledged War Against the Taliban (Editorial)
The Taliban will not suffice to do any more harm through acts of terrorism. They will be stopped immediately as the United States has officially declared war on Afghanistan and the Taliban. Gilgamesh would state: "Because of the evil that is in the land, we will go to the forest and destroy that evil; for in the forest lives Humbaba whose name is "Hugeness", a ferocious giant." The ferocious giant in this case is the Taliban and America is going to the forest to destroy the evil that they have shed on us. If we do not mobilize, the terrorists harbored by the Taliban will keep attacking our society, potentially leading to fundamental changes in how we live. This war is going to be atrocious and "a war with more horrors than that of Vietnam" critics claim. Anti-feminists have come across books of the great works of Sor Juana and have been persuaded to turn to feminism. The United States government has been persuaded to allow women to join in on the war efforts. The war efforts are justified, but women being involved in this war are not. I am not trying to be an anti-feminist. But, if many women die from the atrocities, then how do generations spread? How do we live our lives when generations are cut off and family numbers
are cut short? This would stun our society and near the end of human life. College students have to go to fight in the war after the semester has come to an end. Men and women of this country will all be involved in one of the most treacherous wars in United States history. Why should college students be chosen to go fight after the semester is over? They want to further themselves and become future doctors, lawyers, politicians, architects, businessmen, teachers, writers, and other professions as well. They will lead the future of our nation and will allow it to prosper. Therefore, women and college students should not be put onto enemy lines. Thinking about this brings about the issue of how we should live our lives. Women will still have the same rights as men even if they don't play the same role in battle. We should live our lives knowing that we have to do what is best for our nation as a whole, and not just the individual. We have to keep women from being on enemy lines so that their generations continue to grow, and thus our society continues to grow and prosper as a whole. This brings up a debate about whether equal rights for women should still allow them to go fight in a war, thus cutting off many generations of human beings in the process. Is this worth it? I personally do not think that it is. Women have many rights in the United States and far more than women of any other society in our world today. Sor Juana wrote her books long ago to explain the lack of the rights of women. But that was then and this is now. Women could not vote, publish their beliefs, nor anything closely related to that of a man. Sor Juana says that "Thus I learned how difficult it is to study those soulless letters, lacking a human voice or the explication of a teacher." (Sor Juana, 32) She could not even learn without having to fear, but today that is different. Women can write their beliefs down in books, newspapers, magazines, and other mass media. They do not get persecuted for their ideas or their beliefs. However, if women want to fight that is not necessarily a bad thing. The women that want to stand active duty for their country in the war should be able to do so if they choose to. Our pride, dignity, respect and land of opportunity make our nation what it is today. Along with pride and dignity comes the issue of duty. Lord Krishna says it best when he states: "If you fail to wage this war of sacred duty, you will abandon your own duty and fame only to gain evil." (Bhagavad-Gita, 34:33) In the past, freedom and rights were an issue, and today, they still are. But in time that will change. Our system of government runs just fine and we can't continue to go around complaining about lack of rights when there is a war that has begun. We have to do what is right for all of us and base what is right on our decisions of who should go to battle this war. Only then will we truly be the nation that everyone sees as great and free of drastic conflicts in human rights. That is the way that we should live our lives: free of conflict, and decisions that better our nation as one.
