8 Constellation Stories

There has been many different myths about Orion, one of them is this: He was the son of Hyrieus who was a handsome giant and hunter. He was the lover of Artemis. He was a great hunter and proclaimed to the gods that he could kill any animal alive. Upon hearing this Artemis' brother got jealous and challenged him to kill a great scorpion that lived on an island. Orion took apollo's challenge and went to kill the scorpion. The scorpion ended up being too much for Orion and he jumped into the ocean to swim back to shore. Apollo, was angry that Orion escaped what was supposed to be his death, went to his sister Artemis and and told her that he didn't think that she could hit a distant object in the ocean. So she shot fired and her arrow was right on the mark. As the "object" floated to shore Artemis found out that she had killed her lover Orion. Orion was put in the sky beside two hunting dogs and surrounded by animals to hunt. Orion supposedly still hunts the scorpion today but he will never be able to kill scor


The Hydra, also called the serpent of Lerna, it was a great beast with the body of a hound and 100 serpent heads. It also had poisonous breath and it was so ugly that it caused most people to die from fear just when they looked at it. One of Heracles' great tasks was to kill this Hydra. When he started to fight it, he found out that every time he cut off one of it's heads, three grew back where the other was cut. So to beat him he had Iolus, burn the stump shut each time he cut off a head, which stopped the Hydras' heads from re-growing. The last of the Hydras' heads was immortal, so after he cut it off, he trapped it under a rock.
