Renaissance, Michelangelo. He is responsible for many of the world's best works of art and even a Ninja turtle. I have recently been to his time period, and have learned many incredible things to share.
Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni was on March 6 1475, in Caprise, Italy. His life started out on a rough note when his mother died when he was only 6 years old. His father briefly served as a Florentine government agent and then soon became an improvished nobleman. Michelangelo lived with his father until he was apprenticed at the age of 13 to Domenico Ghirlandaio, the most fashionable painter in Florence at the time. For unknown reasons, the apprenticeship was broken off a year later. When he was 15 years old, Michelangelo was sent to live with the Medici household where he had access to a collection of ancient roman sculptures of the ruler of Florence.
In 1496, Michelangelo moved to Rome where he created "Bacchus", his only sculpture meant to be viewed from all angles. Around the same time, he created the "pieta". It was a sculpture depicting Mary as a young woman holding a dead Christ in her hands. Michelangelo moved back to Florence in 1501 in which he was recognized as the most talented sculptor in central Italy. From 1501 to 1504, Michelangelo created one of the best-known works of art in history, "David". It was a 17-foot tall marble statue of an alert David waiting for his enemy Goliath.
Michelangelo was also a great architect and designer with such work as the Basilica in the Vatican, and the Medici chapel. He worked continuously his whole life until six days before his death. Michelangelo died in 1564 in Caprise at the age of 89. He was honored with a grand funeral and recognized as the greatest sculptor of his time.
