Jupiter

Jupiter is the fifth planet from the Sun and is the largest one in the solar system. It contains more matter than all of the other planets combined and has 28 satellites, eight of which are named moons. Jupiter's size is more than 11 times that of the Earth and about one tenth that of the sun. Seen in the night sky from Earth, Jupiter is the second brightest planet - after Venus. One year on Jupiter equals about twelve years on Earth.

Disturbance in Jupiter's magnetic field produces powerful radio waves making Jupiter the nosiest planet in the solar system. Jupiter's rings, discovered by Voyager I in 1979, are very faint and are totally invisible from the Earth. The atmosphere is very deep, covering almost the whole planet, and is kind of like the Sun. Colorful circular bands, fantastic clouds, and storms demonstrate Jupiter's dynamic weather systems. The cloud patterns change within hours or days. The Great Red Spot is a complex storm moving in a counter-clockwise direction. At the outer edge, material appears to rotate in four to six days; near the center, motions are small and move in many different directions.
