Just the other day my friend was at an interview for a babysitting job, and when the father of the child left the room, she asked the four year old boy if he wanted her to be his babysitter. And this was his response. He said "Sure if you take off all your clothes and sleep with me." Now the child didn't even know what he was saying, he absorbed this idea from the media, or perhaps from his single father. This is one sad example of how outside ideas influence our own sexuality. I think it would be beneficial for me to talk about how I've been influenced before I talk about my ideas of my own sexuality. So in the next few paragraphs I would like to talk first about, society's views on sexuality, God's views, and finally my own views. Society has a twisted sense of sexuality. The media tries to create fetishes and fantasies so they can gain profit and ratings. Everywhere you look all you see is sex. Its thrown in your face a thousand times a day. Sex is tied with just about everything. If you watch commercials today all you will see are sexually suggestive advertisements about laundry detergent, yogurt, socks, cars, and almost everything else. God wants people to share sex only after they are married, and only with the one they are married to. God gave Adam, Eve so that they could live happily together sharing themselves openly with one another. God created sex to bring two people together into one person, one flesh. His intention was not for people to have multiple partners or to have sex freely with whomever you want. God speaks clearly about His views on sexual immorality. "The body is not meant for sexual immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body...Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ himself? Shall I then take the members of Christ and unite them with a prostitute? Never! Do you not know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said 'the two will become one flesh'..." I Corinthians 6:13-16 So what can we do to not let society change our idea of who we are sexually, and what we want sexually? How can we positively know who we are? Well the only way we can counter act society and the media is with God. I truly believe that if we focus on Him everyday He will create a pure heart and a clean mind in us, so we can be strong in our sexuality and we can not only share it with the person that God has given us to marry, we can share it with God Himself.
