Qs) How far does a study of the site and other sources support this view?In an attempt to answer this question we used an array of resources. Some of the resources include a visit to Housesteads Fort on the wall itself. Also we used writing and artefacts both from the roman era. In addition to that we studied a video on Hadrian's wall and have been reading a leaflet on it. Most of the evidence we used seemed to point to the conclusion that the life of the soldiers on Hadrian's wall was quite comfortable. The legionaries had at their disposal a first class hospital in which there was a trained surgeon, a herb garden, a toilet and a surgery room. The surgeon was trained in two acts cutting and sealing and in this practice speed was of the essence. They had a public toilets which for that era would have been very clean and a novelty. This was by far the most comfortable building in the complex which isn't surprising considering hat it was for the Commanding officer. The facilities where superb considering that it was about 3000 miles from Rome. It had a paved courtyard with a covered section to sit or have parties. All the rooms where heated with hypocaust, because it was awfully different to Spain or Rome. There was a lot of rooms, more than usual. He had his own kitchen and bedrooms for him, his wife and his family. He had his own toilet so he didn't have to share with the commoners. This site was also very useful with a lot of detail. Also for food storage they had Granaries. These buildings had very strong and thick walls to stop vermin and keep the food dry. This site is particularly useful as it has a lot of detail in the ruins of this room. In the middle of this section there is a big circular pit that could have been for grinding or a fire pit.
