A detailed Summary of The Scarlet Ibis
Pride, one of the 7 deadly sins, can overcome peoples lives and thoughts.
This is what has happened in the short story, "The Scarlet Ibis", written by
James Hurst tells a story of a young boy who's pride has overcome him, and
eventually hurts someone very close to him. The story, set in the northern
North Carolina coastline consists of a Doodle, his mother and father, and his
older brother. Doodle, born paralyzed has somehow embarrassed his older
brother because he can not walk. That, is when the pride comes in, when he
got so embarrassed, he decides to try and teach him how to walk, so that he
would not have to carry him around everywhere, not for his brothers sake, but
for his own sake. Pride is a horrible thing, and it shows in this story, not only
hurting yourself, but your family and people close to you (friends).
Doing something for the sake of yourself instead of others will
eventually only hurt yourself in the long run. As you can see, pride did hurt
the person who committed it in the story. When the older brother says, "Shut
up. I'm not going to hurt you. I'm going to teach you to walk." This truly

friends wouldn't care, they would like him and think he is cool. If they
