Romeo and Juliet
A detailed Summary of Romeo and Juliet
"I shall be telling this with a sigh
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I-
And that has made all the difference."
(Robert Frost, "The Road Not Taken")
Everybody makes choices. Some are good and some are bad. Some choices may even be fatal. In William Shakespeare's play The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet every character makes choices. These choices cause the tragedy with Romeo and Juliet.
The parents' choices play a large part, even if they were not main characters. Juliet's parents' choices showed that they did not care much for Juliet's happiness. They were trying to force her to marry Paris. As her father said "'But, and you will not wed, I'll pardon you! Graze where you will, you shall not house with me'"(III v ll 189-190). This line says that if Juliet refuses to marry her father will kick her out of

The Nurse and Friar made some very bad choices. They both lied continuously throughout the whole play. The Friar made the mistake of not thinking his plans threw quite carefully enough. If he had chosen to look at the big picture instead of what was happening right then and there, he would have seen that there was too much guesswork in his plans. The Nurse, on the other hand, just went along with everything. Her main choice that stands out is when she gave Juliet advice on what to do about being forced to marry Paris. This advice made her lose Juliet's trust. "Advice is seldom welcome; and those who want it the most always like it the least"(Lord Chesterfield, Letters to His Son). If Juliet had still trusted the nurse, the nurse could have helped Romeo get the message that Juliet was not dead. Then the death of Romeo and Juliet may have been prevented.
