Choose Your Society
Halfway through 3rd term Yr.12, everyone in my position should be overwhelmed by decisions. ‘What university course do I want to do?’ ‘What career will I choose?’ ‘When will I move out of home?’ ‘How much homework will I do tonight?’School encourages us to ask ourselves these questions’ as do our parents. However, although these are important questions for some, most people overlook the factor that will have the largest effect on our lives. The culture/society we live in. Are we really content with the society we live in and the culture we live by? From birth we are thrown into this society without any choice on the matter, much the same as we cannot choose our parents. The difference is that we can change where we live. Everyone at some stage should ask themselves ‘If I could have chosen the culture into which I was born, knowing all the alternatives, would I be here?’
