The period of reconstruction was a time for change. This was a time to “reconstruct” the nation after the civil war. A huge part of this plan was to give the newly freed slaves to have equal rights in society. It didn’t exactly turn out as the “black” community had expected. Many of their hopes were crushed by the “white” society; mostly southerners. The period of reconstruction was hard for the newly freed slaves because their hopes and dreams were crushed and were destroyed by the southerners who didn’t accept them into society.
