Fashions of the 60's Through the 90's
During the 1900's every decade changed massively but in my opinion the most interesting changes began in the 1960's. From our grandparents to our parents to our generation times have changed a lot. Fashion era's and fads and dos and don'ts were everywhere. I'm just letting you in on the highlights of it all. Wild and reckless. These two words can pretty much sum it up. The youth of the world began to see that nothing could hold them back from being individual. They started wearing clothes that no one would criticize because they were too fancy. "Hippies" took the world by storm. Cut-offs, bell-bottoms, and mini-skirts, the works. The older than young but younger than old crowd, would wear cropped sleeved dresses just below the knee, and high-heeled shoes (always a favorite of American women) and silk stoking. Men never change. Still suits and shirts and hats. That's not to say that boys were a little interesting. Boys wore bell-bottoms and casual shirts. Girls wore dresses or bell-bottoms and peasant tops. These peasant tops were embroidered with flowers and plants. They gathered at the top. Everything went "flower power." Cars, rooms, shirts, pants, shorts, shoes, hair, and people. The mini-skirt was treasured and adored buy al
The 1980's were the "anything goes" era. There were so many styles. But the bad thing about the eighties was that everything was a fad. Styles went in and out, and in and out. Different cliques formed according to the styles. There were the people who dyed their hair and pierced everything, and then there were the regular people who didn't do anything special at all. Women entered the business world with a bang. The 'power suit' was invented for the women who wanted to share business power with men. It was a business like attire with "a lady's touch" to add femininity to the suit. It included a skirt about 4 inches above the knee and a formal shirt or turtleneck, with a matching jacket; topped off with some jewelry and purse. Don't forget the high-heels! Evening war was totally outrageous! Glossy fabric, sequins, glitter, and taffeta made these dresses look glamorous. Strapless dresses were absolutely the rage to top the style list. Men of course still wear suits. Tuxedos and suits. That's about all you'll get out of them. Children were still adult miniatures. The boys wore shirts and pants and suits. Maybe some shorts or overalls. Little girls wore dresses, pedal pushers, stockings, small shirts, and buckled shoes. Pumps were also a favorite shoe of the ladies. High-heels are and probably always will be a favorite fashion shoe. 80's were fun that's for sure (thinkquest.org). The 1990's are a time we can all relate to. This decade began as a carry-over from the 80's. They had the pedal-pusher replay, and the tank-top craze. The dresses were the same flowered pattern that was so popular in the day. This pattern was popular until about 1994. Then in 1995, dress shorts took over. Boys, girls, men, and women all were in shorts. In 1997, the 1970 bell-bottoms became popular again, only they make their debut as "flared" jeans. The new pants were so popular that they were seen on girls all over the country. Plain T-shirts were popular as well with young teenage girls. In 1998, the "spaghetti-strapped" tank was introduced and was an immediate hit. Women wore those as well as girls and teenagers did.
