Internet Plagiarism

A detailed Summary of Internet Plagiarism

There are many different aspects, views, and ramifications when it comes to internet plagiarism. The area of Internet plagiarism which, interests me most is the area consisting of the buying, selling, and trading of plagiarized research papers. Along with what can be done by Professors and academics to help eliminate the problem of internet plagiarism. My interest in this area began quite a while ago when I happened to come across a web site which claimed that for a small fee of one hundred dollars they would write a research paper on any subject, complete with an MLA style work cited and five sources. My curiosity didn't peak until several weeks later, when I was actually assigned to do a research paper, at which point I began to do my research for what now is my research paper topic. Most or all of my research into internet plagiarism was done on the internet, and could be divided into two basic categories. The first and the more interesting of the two categories are the many different options available to a student, when it comes to obtaining research papers from the internet. This first category would include such topics as price of the paper, quality of the paper, length of time required to rec

Not only undergraduates stand to advantage from internet plagiarism. ACI Writing Assistance Center Home of Foster City, Calif., says papers are personally directed by a ``Harvard graduate and published author'' who has ``taught at college level in six different subject areas.'' ACI charges $30 per page at the undergraduate level; $35 a page at the master's; and $40 at the doctoral level. Minimum fee for any job is $150 (Milford).

Term paper mills are, of course, nothing new. Los Angeles-based Research Assistance is the biggest and best-known, thanks to their "Term Paper Blues" ads that run in the back of magazines like Rolling Stone. R.A. and similar companies service thousands of panicking or merely cold-blooded students a year, sending out term papers by express mail in return for a credit card number read over the phone. Prices typically run $5 to $10 per page for a standard undergraduate paper already on file, and twice that for custom work. The bibliographic notes-every good research paper credits its sources-are usually free of charge (Wice).

Fortunately or unfortunately for both the educational progress of students and the possibilities for plagiarism, class sizes and time constraints often rule out the intense teacher involvement that would be required to utilize many approaches which would hinder the use of plagiarized material (Galles). In my opinion, it is fortunate that class sizes and time restraints are around. It gives students a little bit of an advantage, which can come in handy every once in a while. Even without the actions in effect to help curb plagiarism, it doesn't keep an unsuspecting student from getting ripped off by "fly by night companies" when trying to obtain plagiarized research papers. Many times it is simply easier in the long run for a student to just do his own work.

A Web site called A-1 Term Papers offers to mail, fax or e-mail papers to customers for a fee. Each paper on the site has a different price, and the cost varies depending on difficulty of subject matter and the amount of research required. Take a look at some papers available:

Others, which can charge anywhere from $5 to $9 per page, list the grade the paper received and the university from which it came. And some even custom wrote papers for as much as $40 a page, adding citations from the customers' university library and other deluxe features (Milford).

An Analytical Study of the Attitudes of Henry Miller and D.H. Lawrence on Obscenity and Pornography. This nine-page paper uses 21 sources and costs $80.55 (Clark).
