This paper will look into the practice of Euthanasia, it's history, and it's future in the United states and abroad.

The word Euthanasia originated from the greek language: eu meaning "good" and thanatos: meaning "death" . The most common meaning given to the word in modern times is "the intentional termination of life by another at the explicit request of the person who dies." Euthanasia usually implies that the act must be initiated by the person who wishes to commit suicide. Some groups define euthanasia to include both voluntary and involuntary termination of life. Like many issues dealing with death and dying this issue has many moral/ethical/and religious questions. The topic Is strongly debated whenever the practice comes into question.

As mentioned earlier in this paper the first recorded attempt at a euthanasia bill in this country took place back in 1906. This however was not the only one and the issue came up many more times in the next 95 years or so. In 1935 the worlds first organized euthanasia society was founded in London England. In 1957 Pope Pius XII issued a Catholic doctrine distinguishing ordinary from extraordinary means of sustaining life. This is no doubt as a result of medicine becoming more modern and more able to sustain life through extraordinary means.
