Renaissance

William Shakespeare is significant to the Renaissance and modern history because his work changed the face of drama and writing forever. He was a living legend, known for being a gifted writer in his own time. Modern authors are often compared to Shakespeare. He set an example for us. Students study his work in school. Many of his plays have been made into popular movies, such as the recent "William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet" staring Leonardo Dicaprio and Claire Danes. Shakespeare's life can be viewed differently be each individual person just like his beautiful plays, poems, and sonnets.

William Shakespeare was born on April 23, 1564. His father was John Shakespeare. John Shakespeare was an alderman and a bailiff. His mother was Mary Andea of Wilcote. She came from a highly respected ancient family. However, who Shakespeare's parents were was not near as significant to him as where he was born. William Shakespeare was born and lived in Stratford-Upon-Avon ("William Shakespeare").

When it came to plays, Stratford was the perfect place for young William Shake


Acting and playwriting was not considered to be a very respectful career choice during Shakespeare's days. Actors were considered to be lazy, incombpenednt people who couldn't get any other job (Doore 26). Despite what their career field was thought to be like, acting was hard work. Before there were peremenant theaters, actors had to move from place to place, taking all over their props, costumes, and scripts with them. Many of these necessary items were damaged when traveling. It was hard to control the crowds when there is no permanent theater. The places that the plays were held were not built to hold the large amounts of people coming in and out. It was very difficult to tell who had paid their admission and who hadn't. Actors would often have to be controlling the crowds right up to moments before it was time for them to be on stage (Chute Shakespeare of London 100).

Unfortunately the theaters had to be closed during the plaque years. The theaters were shut down to keep fewer people from getting the dreaded disease. They were ordered to be closed down between J
