In the story The Necklace, by Guy de Maupassant, the things I liked best were the characters, the setting and the irony.
The story was about an unhappy woman named Madame Louisel and with the great life she was offered. Then she and her husband were invited to a distinguished party. She bought a beautiful dress, but longed for an astonishing piece of jewelry to go along with it.
