A Synopsis of Equus

Dr. Martin Dysart, a psychiatrist, begins talking about a boy that he had to help and then he says that he’ll start with the beginning of the story, and he does.

Hester Salomon, a court magistrate, asks Dr. Dysart to help a boy, who is being tried on her bench, by taking him into the psychiatric hospital. Dysart complies and takes on Alan Strang, a seventeen-year-old boy who blinded six horses with a metal spike all in one night. The boy arrives at the psychiatric hospital, and when the doctor first meets him, all Alan says or does in response to the questions the doctor asks him, is sing commercials from television.
