As I read over the short story "Two Kinds", I see a piece that is rich in conflict and drama. Ni Kan was a child raised in America by her mother who had lost everything in China but looked for hope in America. With her mothers strong attitude towards success it created overwhelming amount of pressure for Ni Kan. The concept of freedom in America really went to her mothers head screaming to her that her daughter could be the best at anything. Ni Kan could be prodigy.
What seemed like a mother trying to bring out the best in her daughter turned out to be more of a conflict than a stretch towards success. At first Ni Kan was exited to be able to be prodigy, as she pictured herself as a ballerina
