Sept 11 - A Date Carved Into History
September 11, 2001 - a date carved into history'Oh my God!' screamed passer-bys as thousands of people came running out of the World Trade Centre, New York - the WTC. New York City has never been in such a depressing situation. Screams of horror and cries for help filled the town as two hijacked airplanes plunged one after the other into the WTC. This event that caused one of the most important buildings in the world to come crashing down, shocked the world. September 11, 2001 was marked as a date carved into history. It was as if World War III was at its beginning, or as Republican Senator Chuck Hagel quoted, "This is this generation's Pearl Harbour". New York City was in a chaotic situation. At 8:45am, the American Airlines Flight 11 plunged into north of the WTC while the United Airlines Flight 175 plunged into south of the building 18 minutes later. The two hijacked planes that crashed into the WTC caused several explosions and resulted huge flames in the building. Parts of the building were rumbling down on to the ground, injuring an estimated 1500 passer-bys. On the ground of the 110 stories high building, people with burnt faces and bodies were moving around like the walking dead. Thousands of office workers wo
The whole world thought that all the attacks were over when the third plane plunged in to the Pentagon but they were wrong. September 11, 2001 also created history when it made its presence felt in Shanks Ville, Pennsylvania 20 minutes after the Pentagon was crashed into. Emergency operators in Pennsylvania received a call at 9:40am from a United Flight 93 passenger stating that the flight had been hijacked. The airplane crashed at a rough 80 miles southeast of Pittsburgh killing 45 passengers and crews. Many lives were sacrificed while a huge number of people suffered major injuries. 80 police officers and 200 fire fighters died while trying to save injured victims. An estimated 10,000 office workers and passer-bys were confirmed dead. 110 lives were lost in the 2 United Flights and 156 lives were lost in the 2 American Flights. Nearly 600 injured victims were treated in local hospitals, all severely burnt. Blood donations and monetary donations were being run everywhere in the United States to help save those in need. This was the biggest crisis ever to be faced by any US president for decades. The whole world watched intensely as they waited to see how current US President George Bush would react. Vows to hunt down the guilty parties were made. The President pledged from Florida that the United States would hunt down the people who made those unforgivable attacks to America. That very night, explosions were seen in the Afghan capital - Kabul. It was believed by many that it was the US government hitting back, though the US denied responsibility, saying that it must have been the jobs of Afghan rebels. The US Government wanted the Taliban to hand in Usama Bin Laden, for if this was not done, there could be war against those who help hide Usama Bin Laden. Many countries agree to help the US track down those responsible for the attacks on America on the September 11, 2001.
