Travel Essay
Although I have never ventured father from New Jersey than Florida, the trips I have taken with my family have been numerous and very fun. Nothing could have prepared me for our last vacation to Florida. We started out in a calm sunny day of August 15. We were packing our bags into the car talking about the good times that neither my sister nor I could ever remember. I t was a bad day to start out our trip. Sunny and calm, no one wants to leave anywhere when its nice out. After we had finished with all we needed to we were making a check list to make sure my dog had a person that would feed him while we were gone. Let him out, you know, the priorities. After we had that settled we moved into our car began to leave for a trip that would be the longest, saddest of our lives to that point. As we were on the highway everything was going very well, it would take us about three or fours days to get to Miami, Florida. Through those four or so days we experienced rain that I never thought was possible. Rain that was so intense that almost made our car skid. We arrived in Miami on August 19th. It was a beautiful day. The sun was up yet it was blistering hot. The heat was very intense. We ar
I look back on my vacation and think how great it was. How I had some much fun with my grandmother, and I know that she loved me and still does. Remembering the good times I had, the peach and lemon trees, Seaworld, the house, my grandmother, and of course Disney World. Then it all seems fine again. On our last day there we went to visit my Uncle Jack, who lived just outside of the Miami vicinity. It started to rain very hard, downpours. We were soaked just running up to the house. We went inside. I was immediately drawn to the red pool table that he had. Since I wasn't really tall enough to reach it, I did my best to shoot the cue ball to the colorful balls. Uncle Jack, my mom, my dad, my Aunt Pati and my other Aunt Maryjane were all talking and catching up. We left his house around 3 or so it was still raining pretty hard. We returned to my Grandmother's house and started to pack. When we had finished we said Goodbye and left. My parents were feeling generous and took us to Disney World. That was a lot of fun. We did everything while it was raining. I wasn't able to go on the ride I had wanted to go on Mr. Toads Wild Ride. I had thrown a temper-tantrum as my parents had put it. When we had finished we started the long drive home. On the way my sister threw up on a new dress she had gotten during the vacation. The car reeked for a long time. Again we went swimming and my grandmother decided to join us. We had a lot of fun swimming around and splashing. We got out of the pool, dried off and went inside for another uneventful evening filled with talk and Dragnat. We arrived home about August 25, 1992 or so. Everything seemed the same to me. Nothing was different. I liked that. My dog was very eager to go outside and play, so I went outside and threw the ball around with him. I noticed that the air felt lighter and was not as hot as in Florida. After we had finished outside we all unpacked and were exhausted. We retired early and woke up with the worst news that we had heard in a long time. Hurricane Andrew had struck land, the most expensive in history.
