Native Son
It's an old saying "Don't Judge a book by its cover". It has happen at least once. The cover of a book looks boring or the title sounds boring, the book is automatically labeled as boring. A lot of times this is done. The odds are is the novel was actually good. When you hear the title "Native Son", what comes to mind. Richard Wright's "Native Son" is a remarkable novel, and has been said to be one of his greatest works. Wright's "Native Son" is set in the 1940's Wright tackles everything from race to fear that African Americans had to face. Wright breaks "Native Son" up into three Chapter "Fear", "Flight", and "Fate". In the Chapters "Fear", "Flight", and "Fate" Wright, explains how Bigger's surroundings made him a confused and angry person. The Compact American Dictionary states" Fear a feeling of agitation and anxiety caused by the presence or immidence of danger." Wright uses fear as the title for book one in "Native Son" because I explain what Bigger's feelings. As you read book one it becomes clear that the main character show fear in many different ways. In "Native Son" Wright explores many types of fear. Wright shows how Bigger felt around white authority. Wright shows that
He feeling this way? He wanted to wave his and many things became plain. No, he did not have to hide behind a curtain or a wall now; he had been safer way of being safe, an easier way. What he had done last night had proved that. Jan was blind. Mary had been blind. Mr. Dalton had been blind. And Mrs. Dalton had been blind; yes, blind in many more ways than one. (Wright 107) Wright's "Native Son" explores the fear black men had of white women. Wright uses this and shows how afraid Bigger was of being around white women. Wright use a bedroom scene with Mary Dalton, After Bigger Murders Mary he has this found confidence, but though out the whole investigation Bigger's confidence begin s to decrease. Bigger then realizes at any time this could be the end for him Bigger feels that the kidnapping note would be the best thing to keep others from suspecting him. Wright makes Bigger's character as a symbolic sense African Americans.
