Through out the music business many artists use their songs to do many things, maybe it's to tell a story or maybe to point out certain aspects of society. In the song "Between Angels and Insects", by Papa Roach, the band uses a more direct approach rather than with symbolism to point out society's dependence on commerce and spending. The writer, Coby Dick, is trying to point out how its more important to focus on who you are and what life should really be about rather than on owning the nicest things and having the most money.
The song begins with the chorus. The chorus contains several important lines and is repeated through out the song with passion. In lines 1 through 3 Coby Dick says "There's no money, there's no possession, only obsession, I don't need that, Take my money, Take my obsession." Here Dick is commenting on how the world is so obsessed with commerce and spending. He's saying that it's as if the money and the possessions mean nothing and it's all just become a way
All in all this song points out many important flaws that are prominent in the society of today. The lyrics use many obvious references and a few that maybe aren't as obvious but for the audience that this song and style of music is directed at its important for the listener to be able to easily see the meaning. It's important for the audience to understand that life shouldn't be all about money and having the nicest thing but more about what is in a person's heart and about their thoughts and ideas.
Again in line 7, Dick says "You can't find the conclusion, Life style and obsession." Here, Dick is again commenting on how many and spending have become and obsession in the world. The line "You can't find the conclusion" is referring to how money can blind a person and cause them to not see how their life of spending and greed will affect them in the end. People will refuse to look at how their life will end and simply focus making money and trying to have that money make them happ
