Italian Excursion

A detailed Summary of Italian Excursion

My initial motivation for traveling to Italy is my mother. Years ago she took a trip with her father to revisit the villages that he had fought for in World War II as a part of the 10th Mountain Division. She is always telling stories about the food, landscape and people that they encountered. The more powerful drive for my desire to tour this country is its beauty and culture. I have always loved the mountains and for this precise reason, Italy appeals strongly to me. Also, Italians have an ancient, deep-rooted culture that fascinates me. Plainly put, I am drawn to Italy through curiosity.

In this fantasy trip of mine, I would want to travel with those dearest to me. For obvious reasons, I would request the company of my mom and grandma, for reminiscent purposes. In order to preserve my own enjoyment, Anna, Eleanor and Sabrinah would be my accomplices in evaluating the beauty of Italian men. Traveling in a pleasant group of six will keep things exciting without feeling burdened by too many people.

Our trip will begin with our flight to Florence, as everyone already has passports and Traveler's Checks will be secure in our bags. We will depart from DIA at 6:45am, transfer in Atlanta to depart a secon

Culture- The culture in Italy is powerful and pervades everything from food to family, dress to religion. The flavor, color and intensity of Italian food is common to us. What we aren't familiar with is the amount of it they eat and how long they take to eat it. It is customary to start dinner at 9:00pm and take hours to finish. When you start with antipasti (appetizer), followed by a first and a second course, and end it all with dessert it is necessary to talk between courses to digest (about.com).

Florence- The main points of interest in Florence are Michelangelo's David, Uffizi Gallery, the Bargello and the Renaissance Ramble. The Uffizi Gallery has the best Italian paintings anywhere and the Bargello is an underrated collection of statues that shouldn't be missed. The Renaissance Ramble starts at Accedemia (home of David), continues through the cathedral that kicked off the Renaissance, leading through Via de' Calzaioli (Florence's pedestrian mall that is on an ancient road of Romans), dumping into the central square, Piazza della Signoria, where Uffizi Gallery and Palazzo Vecchio are located.

Venice- Our final stop has three primary areas of sights to see, St. Mark's Square, the Venice Lagoon and what ever is left. All of these are filled with the usual museums and cathedrals plus various trades that are on display (glassblowing!).

Food- According to Insight Guide Italy, food is a celebration of life itself. There are 23 regional flavors to Italian cuisine. This is effected by availability to produce. Boar, hare, rabbit and chestnuts are unique to Tuscany while pork and truffles are famous in Umbria. Sauces include alla Bolognese, the classic pasta sauce made with veal, tomatoes, carrot, celery, lemon zest and nutmeg, rigatoni that is made of fennel, pine nuts, raisins and fried sardines. Rombo is a fish found almost only in the Adriatic Sea due to the Adriatic's significantly lower level of salt a
