When it aired Fall 2001 on Fox, Digimon: Digital Monsters was an average anime. However what made this show revolutionary was the speed at which it was released in America. The average Japanese Animation or "Anime" for short takes and average one to one and a half years to be officially licensed and released in America. Each Digimon episode however was being aired a mere two weeks after its Japanese counterpart. This also prevented another problem well known in the anime community; Americanization. When most shows are re-released in America, they have been heavily edited and altered in order to appeal to the broadest range of viewers' possible.
