The White-tailed deer, commonly knows as the Virginian deer, is native to the eastern United States and has a furry white tail, hence its name. The white-tailed deer is one of the largest species of American deer. The buck, or male, is 72 inches in length, 36 inches in height at the shoulder and weighs close to 300 pounds. The doe, or female, weighs only 150 pounds. The size of this deer makes it one of the largest targets of American big-game hunters.

The white-tailed deer has reddish brown hair in the summer and grayish brown hair in the winter. The deer have compact bodies and powerful hoofed legs and feet suited for rough terrain.
