Factory Farming

The human race has a way of masking its deepest and darkest aspects. We, as a race, would rather make everything look pleasant. This human characteristic can be seen by looking at what animal farming has become in recent times. A change in the way farming is carried out has taken place. The farming industry has become a highly cruel and competitive business in which the well being of animals is no longer taken into consideration. The only concern is finding the easiest was to make large amounts of money. This current and degraded style of animal farming is called factory farming.

As human beings, we may like to believe that each and every one of us is a decent person. We perhaps would rather believe that not a single person in our species is capable of delivering heartless and inhumane treatment towards animals. It would be nice if this was the case. It is not.

With a strong mind and with strength and courage we can look through the masked world that some corporations have tried to create and see the truth. In this case it is the difference between believing the false world that large and greedy corporations try to create for us or looking beyond it to find the truth. In order to understand the truth, we must be a

There are many causes to the current unfortunate practices in the factory farming industry. The foremost and largest cause is greed. It is all based around the craving for money. According to the book Diet for a New America, "The problem is that the behemoths of modern agribusiness seek profit without reference to any ethical sensitivity to the animals in their keeping (John Robbins, 97)". Profit driven motives create a lack of sensitivity to the wellbeing of animals. Competition plays a major role in factory farming as well. Practicing a more humane style of farming would cause many business to go bankrupt. This is because there are corporations that will implement all means necessary in order to keep their production rates high. Large corporations try to make smaller businesses go under in order to take over a greater share of the market. If a privately owned business were to change to a more humane style of farming, their production rates would go down. If a smaller business's production rates were to go down, they would most definitely be put out of business by a larger company. Because of this predicament many small farming businesses either adopt or maintain cruel factory farming methods due to the of being put out of business.

In order to create a change we, as humans, need to stand up for what we know is right. We need to fight the greed of large corporations which are blindly setting forth long term damaging effect. One way we can do this is by overcoming our addiction to fast food. If there is no longer a demand for fast food then the industry will no longer be able to make money and therefore will cease to do the terrible things they do. The best way to create a change is to educate people into doing what is right. We also need to create laws preventing the harsh, cruel and inhumane treatment of animals. Hopefully one day people will see where we went wrong and work together to create kind and peaceful living conditions for animals. Perhaps one day we will all learn to live in harmony.

Not only is the manner in which cattle are raised extremely cruel, it is also very harmful to the environment. In order to raise catt
