To Kill a Mockingbird

A detailed Summary of To Kill a Mockingbird

All writers have some sort of theme in their work that the reader is suppose to pick up if they fully understand the story. In the story To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, she tells the reader about a girl's experience of life and her experiences with society. The little girl being the narrator, Jean Louis Finch or Scout being her nickname, is telling how she grew and how prejudice has affected the town she lives in. Her father, Atticus, was her good role model and was her source of knowledge and good morals. But when Atticus had to defend a Negro in court, the town of Maycomb goes crazy and won't accept him doing so. Harper Lee has thoroughly shown prejudge acts and how ignorant they can be. Harper Lee has strong thoughts on racism and how the segregation laws were no good at all, privacy and how people should be left alone if no one is bothering them, and how it is best to have self control. It is the themes and how they are written to be taught to the reader also are what make a book so strongly influential.

Another example of this was when Mrs. Dubose, a morphine addict that no one really knew about it, told Jem that Atticus "lawed for niggers" and Jem was so raged that he ripped up her flowers and broke Scout's baton. Atticus had taught them that they should not let what people say get to them and made them that mad. Atticus had a lot of self-control and they both knew to take his word for what it was when it came from him. And they also knew that Atticus had lived a peaceful life without having to rage out on others.

Privacy was another issue in Maycomb that Scout and Jem didn't understand well. There were many issues concerning privacy that they encountered. First off with Boo Radley, a lonesome neighbor in Maycomb, and how Scout, Jem and Dil
