The Movie Bugsy

Benjamin Segal was an infamous mobster during the World War II era, a time when America was experiencing national unity. The world war was in the back of everyone's mind. In the middle of all this madness the daily trials of being American were harder than the easier times of today. Benjamin Seigal was a big part of the mob. He was the mastermind behind the great town of Las Vegas. His borderline genius was shown throughout the movie, as well as his borderline madness. Ben Seigal aka bugsy was confronted by many problems throughout his life both the one that set him back was his love for the ladies, which led to his demise.

Bugsy-Warren Beatty -the main character

Virginia Hall-Annette Benning -Bugsy's love interest

Mickey Cohen-Harvey Keitel -Bugsy's right hand

Harry Greenberg-Elliot Gould -Bugsy's friend from NY

Meyer Lansky-Ben Kingsley -Bugsy's boss

Warren Beatty was the main character in this film. Virginia Hill was Bugsy's love interest. These two actors did a wonderful job of acting in a manner congruent with the times of the 40's. The cast was sprinkled with tremendous talent such as Harvey Keitel, Ben Kingsley, and Elliot Gould. As a whole I think the cast did a magnif

He takes over the operations in one swift move. The family on the west coast was never challenged and therefore easily manipulated. Bugsy himself ran the daily operations. He managed to keep the guys under him in control. One time Ben couldn't manage his employees and his woman at the same time. Another attempt to steal from his family was attempted by the old boss of the west coast family. Ben made and example of him and let him live. His demoralizing tongue-lashing and his pride stripping forms of punishment scare this man into eternal faithfulness. He made an example of this guy and future problems seem less likely to appear before him.

The day had come it was Christmas time. The dream of his desert oasis was finally completed. The devastating opening with no real income causes the bosses to take action against Ben. It was now the time to deal with what they thought was their problem. Ben was asked by Meyer to go back to Los Angeles and meet with his goons. Upon arriving at his Los Angeles home he was promptly disposed of by the hired guns.

Ben Seigal was portrayed in this movie as the typical mafia family man. He loved his wife but couldn't keep his hands off the ladies. One aspect that I found interesting is the fact that he decides to get a divorce. I have never heard of a gangster going through the process of ending his relationship with his wife. The gangsters usually don't want to give up the loyal ness that their wives showed them throughout the years. He is shown showing his undying love for his children and wife throughout the whole movie. He never once turns his back on his family and supports them, at least financially.

The movie starts by showing Ben "Bugsy" Siegel's love for his family. He embraces his children as if it was for the last time. Then it jumps right into Bugsy's career, Mobster. The opening scene is one that I hardly forgettable. Bugsy confronts a business associate that has been stealing from the family. His playful antics in this situation are the first sign of his borderline madness. He offers the man that is stealing from him the shirt off his back in a wrapped box as a present. The guy is confused and bewildered by his calm accusations of such a serious manner. In an apathetic jester he comments on his attire and confuses and scares this man even more. After making these suggesting he proceeds to shoot the man several times in the chest. In his relaxed state he then turns and walks out with no fear of persecution. Several people see his face an
